Health System puts out the call for 2009 applications

GOSHEN, Ind. - Improving community health is at the core of the mission of Goshen Health System.

With over 1,200 Colleagues, Goshen Health System is committed to help make the community the healthiest place to live, work and raise a family. The Community Benefit Fund is Goshen Health System's mechanism for re-investing funds to improve the health status of the communities it serves.

Every year the health system re-invests in area non profit agencies that share its mission, vision and values through the Community Benefit Fund. The program is an effort to further the impact these organizations can make and increase the number of beneficial programs available to the community.

In 2008, Goshen Health System provided over $159,500 in funding to 31 well-deserving organizations from Goshen and the surrounding area. Since its inception in 1998, the Community Benefit Fund has given over $1.5 million in grant money. This investment is in addition to charity care, as well as prevention and education activities supported through the Goshen Health System operating budget.

2009 applications are now available. Programs that seek to meet the needs of the community and are consistent with the mission of Goshen Health System are encouraged to apply for grants through the Goshen Health System Community Benefit Fund. Complete funding guidelines are available in the application packet, which also includes a description of project grant programs and an application form.

Organizations can apply for project grants and matching grants by submitting a single application. Prior recipients must apply annually for reconsideration. It is not the intent of the fund to support capital acquisitions, building or construction projects.

The application must be completed and returned with supporting documentation by Jan. 16, 2009. Call 574.535.2852 to request an application packet through the mail.
